In Development: Ning Apps

We wanted to give everyone an update on our upcoming addons. The addons we're developing from this point on, will be OpenSocial Network Applications (They will officially be called "Ning Apps" by Ning upon launch). Over the past few months we've been developing a backend system to host the data for our upcoming addons, as unlike with our previous addons that stored data on your Social Network, to accomplish the same with the new API will require us to store the data from the addon.

We've just recently began developing the new addons that will utilize the new system. Addons developed using this new API, will be easily installed with one click to your social network. All Ning Apps will be approved by Ning and upon approval will be added to a new directory of addons. It's important to point out that Ning Apps are not the same as the Open Social applications your network already has, it just utilizes the same API. Ning Apps will be capable of everything our current addons can do; from adding an entire section to your network, to writing to your network's activity feed.

Initially, we will migrate some of our previous addons to the new system, shortly afterwords we will be launching addons we're currently not offering and continue the migration process of our other addons. We will be waiting until after our addons have been approved by Ning to announce any additional details. We're currently working to finalize development and are planning to publicly launch them in the fall.
